A module is a device that combines multiple functions into a single unit. These functions are typically available as individual components. There are several reasons to specify a module, other than the individual components. Modules, safe front or rear panel space, is only one cutout is required. The installation time is only one item needs fitted in the panel, and less wiring is required for a single device. Modules also reduce costs in regards to labor, overhead, materials and inventory needed. Modules are available in many configurations and styles, however, there are five basic functions commonly available in modules along with a few variations for some of these functions.
