This month in Interpower Connections we are continuing our series on designing for export. We have discussed designing for Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. We will continue by giving you information and resources you will need when designing for Denmark.

Denmark utilizes its own plug pattern. The standard Danish plug is described in Afsnit 107-2-D1, Standard Sheet DK 2-1a. The Danish Class I plugs are rated at 10A, 13A or 16A for use at 250V. Cord sets are rated at 10A/250V with an IEC 60320 C13 or 16A/250V with an IEC 60320 C19. Denmark uses the Europlug for Class II plugs at a 2.5 amp rating.

Denmark has a data plug for equipment that is especially sensitive to power spikes and surges. This is outlined in Afsnit 107-2-D1, Standard Sheet DK 2-5a. The pins on a data circuit plug are flatter and not round with a rating up to 16A/250V.

Denmark is one of the few countries that has a medical grade plug, which is outlined in Afsnit 107-2-D1, Standard Sheet DK 2-8a. The medical plug has a flat line pin and a round neutral pin with a rating of up to 16A/250V.

DEMKO is the standards testing agency for Denmark. When designing your product for export, you should contact the testing agency for the country you are designing for. Below are the links for Denmark’s testing and marking agencies.

When you have the appropriate standard numbers, you can purchase the standards. The standards contain the information you need to design your equipment and gain the appropriate approvals to export to Denmark.
