This month, we will take a look at the power main used in Israel.Israel’s standard plug pattern is defined in SI-32 and is exclusive to Israel and is not compatible with other sockets. The unique plugs have round line and neutral prongs as well as a round grounding pin. The previous style of Israeli plug had three flat blades. In 1989 a new version of the Israeli socket was standardized. This required the holes to be round in order to also accommodate round plugs. The slots for the pins are shaped specifically to accept the round ground and neutral pins. The flat-bladed plugs (plug on left) are being phased out in favor of the round pins (plug on right).
The Israeli plug is also used in the West Bank and in the Gaza Strip. The plug is rated up to 250 Volts and 50 Hertz. The Class I Plug is rated 16 amps and is used for all Class I applications from 2.5-16 amps. The Europlug is used for Class II applications. Like much of the world, Israel does not have a medical standard.It is important to know the requirements for the country you are exporting to. The Standards Institution of Israel (SII) is the standards and testing organization for Israel. Below is the link to their website
