How to Design for China

In this edition of Interpower Connections, we look at designing equipment for China. While there are 21 plug pattern standards used throughout the world, there are similarities and stark differences. Our Guide to Worldwide Plugs and Sockets Patterns & Power Mains (single phase) can identify the plug pattern, voltage, and frequency for most countries around the world.

The plug and socket pattern for use in China is specified in publications GB 2099-1 and GB 1002-1. The Chinese plug is a 3-wire, grounded plug rated at 10A/250VAC used in Class I applications in China.

As stated in earlier articles on https://www.interpower.com, the Chinese, Argentina, and Australian plugs resemble each other. They have similar pin patters, however, they have slight body variations, wiring alterations, and different pin sizes. The Chinese plug contact pins are 1mm longer than the Australian plug, and the plug body dimensions vary slightly. The Argentine plug has slight body dimension variations, and the wiring differs; the position of the line and neutral contact pins are reversed.

The Chinese cord sets can be terminated with a variety of IEC 60320 connectors and have a maximum output rating of 10A. China does not have a medical grade standard.

China requires that plugs, connector couplers, and cable used in the construction of the Chinese power cords and cord sets be tested and approved by the China Commission for Conformity Certification of Electrical Equipment (CCEE) and must bear the CCC mark.

Below is a link to China’s standards agency:  http://www.cqc.com.cn/english/index.htm You should review the information specific to your equipment and purchase standards for information needed when designing your equipment. This will ensure you can obtain the appropriate approvals needed to export to China.

Testing for Export . . . We Make it Easy!

The Interpower International Power Source is an AC power source with 7 sockets on the face of the unit, making it easy to test your product with the plug of the country you are exporting to. Interpower part number 85521701 has an input of 100-240VAC and 50-60Hz supplied through a NEMA 5-15 plug. The output is 1725VA maximum with Low Range variable 10-138VAC at 12.5Ams maximum and High Range variable 10-276 VAC at 6.25Ams maximum, 47-450Hz. This unit is ETL and SEMKO certified and RoHS compliant.
